Home-Grown Dutchess County Real Estate Office Launches Blog

When Robert Ferris opened the doors to R. Ferris Real Estate in 1966, Lyndon Johnson was president, gas was 32 cents a gallon, and large tracts of land averaged $1,500 an acre.  Real Estate advertising was done in the Poughkeepsie Journal, Pennysaver, and the New York Times.  It was a time of rotary phones, contracts with carbon copies and deals made with a handshake.

Here we are in 2008, just days before a Presidential election and it is an era of cell phones with text messaging and the Internet and all that it offers.  A customer in Prague can peruse the net to find a home to relocate to in Poughquag.   A large tract of land now runs $20,000 per acre and you can still advertise your home in the New York Times but now you can also post it on www.newyorktimes.com.  Here at R. Ferris Real Estate we strive to stay up with the times and with that in mind we now present to you our new blog.

A lot has changed in 42 years, most notably  prices and technology.  But a few things have stayed the same, like the good honest service you have come to know from a locally-owned and operated real estate office.  You may be able to search for your dream house on Google.  You can e-mail your mortgage companies to see what rates you can get on a 30-year fixed.  But when you pick up the phone or e-mail our offices, you will get one of our experienced agents to respond to your interest immediately.

Whether it is a 3-bedroom, raised ranch in Southern Dutchess or it is several hundred acres to start your own organic farm or weekend get-away, what you will get is good old-fashioned service.  That is how our little office was built and how we have grown to be a locally-owned and operated office here to meet all your real estate needs.  Now we just have a new way to reach out to you.

Thank you and look here again next week for our next posting on open land issues in LaGrange!
